You've got it in one. Couldn't have put it bteter.

  • Lucas(Sunday, December 25 2011 18:06)

The railway station is never going to reopened, those who suggested it, get real.

As for improving transport links, the 36 could definitely do with an increased time table, especially at peak times, when the buses tend to be overcrowded. The single deckers barely cope with passenger numbers, and I've seen them leave people behind on more than one occasion. The main problem is that we need later buses. Last bus from Bournemouth is 6:20, meaning that we can't go out for the evening, as we have no way of getting home. Even if the service reduces frequency after 6:20, and only runs at 8:20 and 10:20 it would get used.

The only way for this to happen is if the council puts the funding in for it, the operator is unlikely to do it themselves, without a bit of incentive...

More bus services and maybe the reopening of Verwood town railway station. My idea for the buses is that the 37 becomes Half Hourly and either the 36 becomes Half Hourly or another operator like Yellow Buses start routes to Verwood by extending the 4c. There is also demand for a new service running from Verwood - Ferndown - Castlepoint - Boscombe as we currently have very limited links to the shopping areas

  • Bill Carter(Saturday, December 03 2011 10:54)

    Hello
I am sure that I can speak for all that our public transport links aren't the best as the only services we have are the 36 to Bournemouth which runs hourly and the 37 to Poole which again runs hourly. Now me and my family all use the buses to get to work, school and to places of interest we have begun to notice that both these services have started to become very overcrowded the 36 in particular which sometimes results in passengers being left at the bus stops. Due to the current economic climate and more people using the bus like me and my family you would think they would solve the problem of the overcrowding but they haven't its just getting progressively worse. I and many other frustrated passengers have wrote to Wilts & Dorset asking them to monitor the routes and decide on how to solve the overcrowding whether it is increasing the frequency or putting a bigger bus on the service but so far they have not responded t any of our emails or comments. The next idea I had was that maybe a second operator could start serving Verwood for example Yellow Buses are already operating numerous School Contracts so maybe the could start a service to Verwood.
I though maybe you could propose this idea to them as you are more likely to get a response from them or you could contact Wilts & Dorset and ask them to look at the situation our public transport system is in.
    Many Thanks

i live in three legged cross with 4 children we have already lost our petrol station which now means a round trip of 7 miles just to get some. it seems unless you are over 50 we are not allowed into our village hall, verwood people seem to always ask us where we live and when its not verwood we appear to be unwelcome i think that is because we are wimborne not verwood. when is three legged cross going to get activities for children, when is the village hall going to run activities inside school hours so parents can use the facility and outside school hours for childrens activities.we constanlty here verwood wants this and that what have we got except a lot of residents without transport, no petrol for those that do and nothing for our children of all ages to do except maybe the rec but that is usually filled with beer laden verwood teens that apparently don't drink in there many many verwood outside areas and dog doo doo left by a small handful of elderly residents that seem to think that as picking it up involves bending down they are excluded from the rules.
three legged cross in my opinion is excluded from our neighbouring village, verwood, and totaly ignored by our postal town wimborne. we are out here someone needs to help us too. we have been asking for about 15 years for a simple running track around the rec. and some outside gym eguipment there, frequently you can't even use the rec as it doesn't get mowed very often. but i suppose verwoods umpteen parks are more important and our little lumpy bumpy little field doesn't count.verwood has the hub, a village hall that actually gets used for comunity things not just the elite over 50's, they have art exibitions, fairs etc etc etc. please think of the children here especially those that don't have personal transport to get to all the facilities in verwood.
why are our children have to have a 1 year fight to go to emmanuel middle school. its not our 'catchment' school despite being our nearest, why because verwood wants verwood for themselves. three legged cross only gets mentioned when verwood wants money then three legged cross is excluded and fogotton.

From a teens perspective, Verwood has to be the most boring place in Dorset. Things really need to be done to spice it up.
People wonder why teens cause havoc at night and get drunk in forests. It is because there is nothing to do. The evening is dead and there is nowhere to go.

Obviously you can't just throw in some pubs in the town centre or a club. But simply better bus services could solve this. The Verwood bus transport is severely lacking in destinations. One is definitely needed for Castlepoint, and on Fridays and Saturdays increasing the times so we teenagers could escape.

Of course a swimming pool would be nice. Move the gym to the hub which would increase usage, let Morrisons expand, and revamp Potterne Park to Leisure Centre standards and put one there. Add a Petrol station on the otherside of Verwood.

I think a good idea would be to move the Rec to the hubs' garden. More shops are needed in the town centre, and the Rec is one of the only spaces. Use it. Enough with the Hairdressers, Card shops and Estate Agents. Get something useful there. That are would make a nice little square of shops, some offices on top and Club 31 is more likely to be used. Put in a few restaurants. A clothes shop, something we would shop in.

The young voices need to be heard. Do a survey in the local middle school and QE. You will see we generally all have the same idea on our town. That it is useless to us.

The skate park was a good idea, but Potterne lacks in things to do if you are not involved in the football or rugby. Put the leisure centre there so they can use the space.

Stop with the tacky flats. Use the space for the family houses. Try and find one area to put all the shops and not have them dotted everywhere. Think Ringwood and Wimborne style. They need to be accessible.

Hopefully you will get the point. We don't want more flats, we don't want another funeral parlour. We want something that can be used by everyone, and will stop us from running wild.

If only life was as simple as the comments imply. Sadly, you can't make businesses take on empty premises and the owner will grab at the first opportunity to lease. There are now new empty premises available - find a tenant for them!!

There is a very small group of people (most over 65!)who call themselves AGFA (Active Games For All) who have just gained planning permission for a MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area = hardstanding with sports lines and basket hoops and surrounding fence)in the back left-hand corner of the Recreation Ground. A great deal of money has to be raised to achieve it and the proposed fitness equipment alongside. To find out more or if you are willing to help the group fundraise, contact Pat Morrow on 814733.

Hire the Hub or the Memorial Hall and put on a dance or disco - that's the way things happen here.

All swimming pools locally are attached to upper schools.... but this means limited usage opportunities. Form a swimming pool group, look into the costs and see if it can be done. There was and may be still is a privately run pool in Axminster.

Sorry you don't like the play equipment - more challenging items when to Three Legged Cross Recreation Ground - yes, we do care about 3LX; and Moors Valley Country Park is not far away.

There will be Town and District Council elections next May - hopefully there will be plenty of candidates!

    Angela Daymond, a Town Councillor

ref your comments on a swimming pool - from what i can make out of the new house building proposals they are hoping to build more houses on the land put aside for this near emmanuel school.

we need more facilities before any further largescale housbuilding in verwood. the swimming pool was in the 10 year plan in the 90's when we first moved here. there are no allotments either - something msot places take for granted.

  • francesca horning(Sunday, October 10 2010 18:27)

do not build more houses in verwood at eastworth road/field place! There are sooo many children like me who live in that estate and the park is the best thing we have got there and if you knock the park down, you will loose the reputation for the houses and they may not sell. Thank you Yours sincierley Fran (i am 12)

  • Christine(Tuesday, September 21 2010 13:12)

    A number of things:

    1. A swimming pool - there must be enough land next to the Verwood Hub to move the existing leisure centre and build a swimming pool (particularly as Morrisons is wanting to expand and add a petrol station using the existing leisure centre location).

    2. The funeral services building would better occupying the upper buildings in Verwood Town Centre and an all day restaurant/cafe in its place down on the main parade - it is an ideal spot for tables outside. Also, it would be nice to offer internet cafe here too for the older generations - get them technically savy and connected with friends and relatives around the world

    3. We need more shops, including clothing stores - all we seem to have are card & gift shops and for anyone without a car, its a long trek to the nearest main shopping area

    4. The Verwood Industrial Estate could have been an ideal spot for a better shopping centre instead of businesses such as Verplas that could be located anyone on a proper insdustrial estate.

    5. A propert market on a Saturday, that sells more than just discount stuff. A market with proper clothing stores, fruit and veg etc. Like the London markets

    6. A proper community website for Verwood redidents where people can place ads, chat, see what is going on, post items to an online local classifieds, buy items, list businesses, services, upload pictures, videos etc. Maybe this can be bolted on to the Hub website (I can produce this so please email me if interested)

  • kenneth Fanner(Friday, August 27 2010 10:13)

Why is everything at Verwood..2 new all weather pitches.....but its in the title, Verwood and (afterthought) Three Legged Cross.

The Councillors get paid enough and seem that they can't be bothered and just want to make any progress slow.

Next year is a new year for voting your local councillor, get rid of the old 'n' useless and vote for some one who will do as they promise to do.

  • john(Thursday, July 08 2010 10:23)

nobodys mentioned three legged cross yet! whats happening with the pub? it looks a disgrace, somebodys dumped a load of rubble outside now, what next, graffiti?

  • Sarah Sumner(Monday, June 14 2010 14:24)

Swimming pool, Upper School, Cycle Lanes and safe crossing points for school children and elderly. An upper school would keep our kids here in our community, hello we are a town, hello can you hear me??????

  • Amanda(Wednesday, April 21 2010 17:16)

Please can we ask for a lottery grant to provide/build a swimming pool? It would be widely used by all ages and Verwood really does need its own. Other swimming pools in the area have very limited swimming times/lessons and are hardly fit for purpose. Verwood really needs a local pool, after all it is a TOWN and it's about time it provided the facilities of a town!

Also, I totally agree with Del regarding the play park in the centre of "town". It's completely lacking in imagination, so much more could have been done with it. Furthermore, what about providing an all purpose hard surface ball court for our bored teenagers to play 5-a-side football or basketball in? The field next to the Memorial Hall would be a perfect place. I think our skate park is a good start, but it's so far out of Verwood, it's almost in 3LX, it really should be closer to the cente of the town.

swimming pool and improved tennis courts (see nets)

larger supermarket & 2nd petrol station

cycle route along ringwood road to ringwood amd afar

increased variety of shops worth viewing and buying from

    a town centre pub/restaurants (e.g wetherspoons/italian)
a decent colourful wine bar with an atmosphere in the evening perhaps breakfast/lunch cafe by day.

improved PUBLIC TRANSPORT - LATER frequent BUSES to ringwood (where all the restaurants are)

bring back the railway to verwood as part of the ringwood to brokenhurst reopening project !!!

    airport shuttle service
    castle point shuttle service

black bin bags collection to be placed in large wheely bins

The hub to have a purpose...become the swimming pool maybe?

MONEYFLY ROAD amongst other similar roads to have gravel fill in the craters

just anyone of the above to be given the goahead would be a fantastic achievement

  • DINK(Tuesday, April 06 2010 16:09)

Need to encourage businesses that will enliven the centre of town - italian, wine bar, rather than funeral directors etc.
Agree with the point about parking at Tesco - its amazing no major accident yet - need access to Tesco and Vicarage Rd from main car park.
    Cycle path along Ringwood Rd.
Verwood still has village mentality with growing young population cannot believe that there is no
    Secondary school or swimming pool.
The Hub seems to be a real white elephant and the new road layout has made the British Legion so inaccessible.
Verwood is a great place to live due to its proximity to Bournemouth and New Forest - I hope the town plan makes it a great place to live in.

  • Iain(Monday, March 29 2010 16:16)

The following would improve Verwood greatly.

    - No parking outside of Tesco's
    - Swimming Pool
    - No more building of flats (and pulling down the half-built ones on Crane drive) - the demand in Verwood is for family houses.
    - Upper School
    - Green Grocers
    - Deli
    - Weekly Saturday Market
    - More frequent/longer hours public transport

  • Del Storey(Friday, March 26 2010 11:04)

The 'recently renovated'? childrens play area is a typical example of the lack of vision of whoever is making decisions here. We had a golden opportunity when it was closed to make that area outstanding, exciting and new, but instead it was decided to put cheap, unnatractive equipment in there, which was poorly fitted, along with the tyre swing, which is in my opinion, and I know i'm not alone, one of the most dangerous pieces of play equipment I've ever seen! My point is this, Verwood always seems to implement short term fix and not long term vision. I sincerely hope this town plan eliminates that culture. In the case of the play area, which agreed was run down a little, surely it would have been better to wait a few more years, gather better funding, even perhaps by way of involving the community, and build an outstanding play area that we could all be proud of? I will be getting involved with this project but I fear that any good, supported suggestions will fall on deaf ears, the ageing town council seems to not get the balance right between Verwoods older poulation and it's massively significant younger one! I love our village but the chap who commented on the village center needing to be a hub of action is right, the heritage center for example, and the memorial hall, or is it an anderson shelter? Are these projects befitting of the younger, middle aged, forward looking community that will be, or even maybe is, the majority of our home? Again, money spent on these that was not forward looking. Can you see a pattern here? Ferret Green, job well done, shops adjaacent to it, total cock up! Do we really need 2 mini markets and a funral directors there? No. What an amazing spot that would be for a lovely village pub, with terraced eating in the Summer? But no, instead a whole parade of things we don't need! Yes were in a recession but do we sell out at the cost of making our village dull and eventless, soon we wont need all the estate agents! And finally, please, somebody tell me the town planners who gave permission for the awful unfinished flats is now looking for a new job? Rant over - Thankyou! And breathe!

  • Bill Seymour(Wednesday, March 10 2010 23:25)

Verwood has no allotments despite a growing list of residents desiring such a facility. Provision of allotments would align well with the health and well being aspect of the town plan as well as environmental friendliness. A group of residents has formed Verwood Allotment Holders Association which is working with Verwood Town Council to find a solution. It's a slow process, however, but one which would benefit from inclusion in the steering committee's recommendations.

  • Debbie(Sunday, March 07 2010 21:56)

We are long overdue for an Upper School some Parents are not financially sound to let their children stay on at 6th form as you have to pay for transport who suffers ? The children!!!
We do not need anymore estate agents, beauty places,or hairdressers.

  • Neil(Friday, February 12 2010 11:45)

Good point from Martin - Dead in the evening is not helped by no takeaways allowed open afetr 9PM. Funeral place in the center daft not as though you get passing trade the Indian should be on that plot. Italian good idea should convert the 100 room in the hub to it. This will help "The Hub appears to have no marketing plan and is apparently underused. Seems a shame after such expenditure." and comment #6
As for unfinnished flats - council should by them and finnish the build and rent to people who cant afford to buy. Its not difficult really !!

  • Neil(Friday, February 12 2010 11:23)

"No parking outside Tescos - very dangerous" This comment is true and easily resolved. Simply take out one of the fence panels and lay a few slabs so you can access Tesco from the back carpark

  • Feedback from Town Market (Nov'09)(Sunday, January 31 2010 10:52)

I have included a sample of suggestions that came out of the consultation at the Farmers Market, although it should also be noted that there were many postive comments about our Town (e.g. "Very friendly. Access to lovely country. Good facilities.").
    Town Plan Steering Group.

  • Feedback from Town Market (Nov'09)(Sunday, January 31 2010 10:47)

Increase footpath & bridleway links. Look after natural environment (heathland etc).

  • Feedback from Town Market (Nov'09)(Sunday, January 31 2010 10:45)

Better sports facilities (e.g. swimming pool). More variety of shops (music, books, clothes, shoes. More bus routes. An Italian restaurant. More shows at the Hub. New builds to be sympathetic to the village style I.e. not too modern.

  • Feedback from Town Market (Nov'09)(Sunday, January 31 2010 10:44)

No parking outside Tescos - very dangerous and causes lots of road rage (worst part of Verwood). Fully pedestrialise the town centre - close off Ringwood Rd past Memorial Hall. Poor connection to Ringwood due to Hants/Dorset border - have a cycle route to Ringwood. Have more restaurants in Verwood.

  • Feedback from Town Market (Nov'09)(Sunday, January 31 2010 10:41)

Get rid of still unfinished flats. Do not build any more flats - there are already too many unsold in the area. Get some more shops and a senior school.

  • Feedback from Town Market (Nov'09)(Sunday, January 31 2010 10:39)

Better speed controls through the town (Use of average speed cameras?).
No more building, including the development of existing gardens, as the Town is large enough already.
    A larger foodstore.
No parking on main road through town centre.

  • Feedback from Town Market (Nov'09)(Sunday, January 31 2010 10:35)

I would like a swimming pool and some more shops. Another petrol station would be good.

  • Martin O'Kelly(Thursday, November 26 2009 21:39)

    - The village has a lot of Estate Agents, IFAs, Solicitors, Banks, etc - it would be an improvement if the mix could be improved. More consumer type shops.
    - In the evening the village is dead. Attempts should be made to open some evening activities. We need a village centre pub, restaurant, etc.
    - Ferrett Green looks good - attempts should be made to make some use of it.
    - The British Legion is a centre that is seriously underused. The new road layout has seriously effected its business. A path should be made through the recreation ground to the Legion, which would encourage people to use it.
    - The Hub appears to have no marketing plan and is apparently underused. Seems a shame after such expenditure.

Overall, I would like to see the village becoming more of a centre of activity, both in the daytime and the evening.
